YOUTH THEATRE

Like any high-quality youth theatre, we love to play games, improvise, devise new plays, put on public shows, go on the odd trip and generally hang out being creative. We’ve been meeting and performing at Friargate Theatre since 2010, and have some fantastic young theatre-makers, but we’re always on the lookout for new talent – COULD IT BE YOU?

Anyone keen to make theatre is welcome, and our extra leaders and volunteers make sure no one gets left out - whatever your ability, we’ll try to find the right challenge and opportunity to stretch your imagination, creativity and performance skills. It’s also a great place to build confidence, team-work and communication skills.

There's no audition, and you don't need experience.

Acting Up! is a weekly two-hour drama session for young adults with additional needs or disabilities.

Love drama?

You are not the only one...

So why wait? ...act now!

You can call 01904 655317 or email acting.up@rltc.org to arrange a free taster session. Each term at Acting Up! costs £70, with partial and full bursaries available for those in financial need.

Don’t just take our word for it, here is what the Acting Up! members have to say:

‘Acting Up gave me a major confidence boost. I made many friends, had my first relationship and found a love for theatre that meant I went to college and got to perform at York Theatre Royal’

‘I began coming as a way to express myself as I was shutting myself off, and I’m still here. I genuinely love it’

‘It’s good to socialise with other people’

‘We get to learn new skills and get to put on shows that we can share with our families’

‘I’ve been coming for years and have formed good friendships and enjoy meeting new people’

‘I like coming here to do the shows’

‘Acting Up helped me build confidence’

‘It’s given me an opportunity to support others and feel I have a role to play’

‘I learned new skills and made new friends’

‘The staff are really helpful and I know if I have a problem I can talk to them. It feels like a safe space’

‘I did drama at college and now I get to do it again. I am remembering skills and it has helped me get back into what I’ve missed’

‘It has made me more independent. I can come here on my own now’

‘Acting Up is so beneficial, especially with the lack of mental health and special needs services, it gets people out and about, it helps with routine and confidence. It gives us a safe space to be ourselves’
